Lasik Eye Surgery: What Is It All About?

Monday, January 5th, 2009
by Thomas Fraser

LASIK stands for Laser In Situ Keratomileusis and refers to the surgical procedure to treat refractive errors in the eye. The benefits of LASIK surgery are improved vision without the need to wear glasses.

Why is LASIK eye surgery needed? Long and short sightedness is caused by a refractive error in the lens and cornea, which are responsible for focusing. Spectacles or contact lenses are prescribed to correct the refractive error so that the person can see normally. Patients consider Lasik surgery so they won’t to have to wear glasses or contacts lenses.

What are the different types of LASIK eye surgery? Conventional Lasik treatment is based on the patient’s glasses prescription and has fixed parameters of treatment for each individual person. It is effective for most people but can result in glare, night vision problems and halos.

Wavefront LASIK treatment - this type uses the Wavelight brand of laser. It also uses the patient’s glasses prescription, but the thickness and curvature of the cornea is taken into account as well. It has less side effects than conventional Lasik surgery.

Columbus Breast Augmentation Facts

For many women looking to change their lives, they often look towards a breast enhancement. There are a variety of reasons women choose a breast enhancement. One reason is that a woman may not be happy with her breasts and feel that they are too small or ill shaped. Another reason is that she doesn’t feel feminine enough, or she wants to feel more attractive. Still yet, women can do it out of a medical necessity such as if she had a mastectomy from breast cancer. All of these reasons can make a woman feel less self confident about herself and her body. When a woman has a breast enhancement she often feels more beautiful, and it is a big boost to her confidence level.

The first thing a woman must do when looking to have a breast augmentation is to decide what size and shape she is looking for in a new breast. It used to be that you only had a choice of cup size, but now with new types of breast implants a woman can choose from a more natural looking breast that is taller in size and less wide so it fits a woman better. While it does cost more to get a specially fitted breast, they look much more natural then the previously used crescent silicone implants that have been popular in the past.

The treatment of cancer my friend underwent

Very often we tend to ignore the information about the many treatments of cancer unless there comes a time when we have to pay attention to it. Unless we are fascinated with reading medical journals we hardly bother to know more about the problems or the solutions or the symptoms of cancer. This is what happened to one of my closest pals as well.

She is a clinical nurse with specialization in Geriatric Nursing. She is well equipped about all aspects of medical knowledge as well as other types of knowledge. Surprisingly however she was not aware of cancer and the latest treatments that are available unless she was diagnosed as suffering from invasive cervical adinocarcinoma. We were both unaware of cancer and only had knowledge about the side effects that comes with chemotherapy and radiation techniques. Now of course we know much more than we knew at that point of time. She now goes for her treatments and I would here tell you the process of the treatment of cancer that she underwent.
